Class Lists – How are our Kid's Teachers Selected?
Each year, our teaching staff sits down as a grade level to develop class lists for the next school year. The first activity in the process is to fill out a card for each child. The card contains information on things such as reading level, math level, if they have an Individual Education Plan (IEP/special education), if they have a Written Education Plan (gifted), if they should not be in a class with a specific student, etc.
Once the cards are completed the teachers compile new classes by looking at students’ attributes. The goal is to have each class containing or looking like the one next door. The students are placed in classes heterogeneously based on race, sex, academic levels, etc. Each class should have about the same number of gifted identified students, students who are average in math, students high in reading, the same number of boys, etc. Our Intervention Specialists group students with IEP’s in classrooms in order to provide them the most service minutes possible. This would be the only attribute that might differ from room to room. Then the new class list is then written and goes into the Cincinnati Public computer system.
Making new classes is a challenging task. Much thought is put into the grouping of students. Our teachers work many hours together to make sure each class’s attributes have been evaluated. They take into consideration each child’s learning style and needs when selecting next year’s teacher. Although we appreciate your input, parent requests for specific teachers cannot be grated.
The fourth quarter report cards will include the teacher name for each child for the 2010-2011 school year. Class lists will be posted on the front doors of the school the beginning of August. The building will be open on August 13 from 9:00-12:00 for any family wishing to come and find the classroom prior to the start of school.

New Vaccine Requirements for the 2010-2011 School Year
All incoming kindergarteners must have 2 doses of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine in addition to other childhood immunizations. Returning 1st-6th graders are only required to have 1 dose for school attendance. All rising 7th graders must show evidence of a Tdap (Tetanus, diptheria, pertussis) booster within the last 5 years. Most will not have had this since their early childhood immunizations, so please check your records and take your child for a well-child checkup if he/she has not been in the last year. We provided this vaccine at Fairview April 26 for those who had signed consent forms.

Fundraising
Keep Saving Those Box Tops!
You may find yourself cooking with Betty Crocker, Pillsbury and Gold Medal flour. You may set the table with good old Hefty paper products, store the leftovers in a Ziploc and toss the rest in Hefty trash bags. Visitors may arrive toting Huggies Diapers and boxes of Kleenex, demanding Juicy Juice, Yoplait and General Mills cereals. You will have a lot on your mind, but don't forget to clip those Box Tops! We greatly appreciate all the families who have sent in Box Tops this year. Save them over the the summer break and keep 'em coming next year! For questions, please contact Sonya Thielmann at 251-5618 or thielmanns1@earthlink.net.
Buy Market Day Products
To date, Market Day sales have raised thousands of dollars for Fairview, so look for orders forms in your child's backpack throughout the school year or visit marketday.com or order directly online. The food is delivered to school and can be picked up on your way home from work.
Just Buy Kroger Groceries
Kroger shoppers...start this brand new school year out right by using your Kroger Rewards card every time you shop at Kroger! If you would like to get in on the easiest way to make money for Fairview, be sure to purchase a Kroger Rewards Card for only $1.00. You simply reload it for as much money as you need when you do your Kroger shopping. Fairview makes 4% of all of your Kroger purchases. To get a card, check for applications on the wooden wall Kroger ‘lock box’ in Fairview’s main hallway (directly past the office) or e-mail Joyce Cunningham at bcunningham@fuse.net or call 541-8965.
Recycle!
Collect (and drop off as your bins fill up at home) aluminum cans and paper in the bins. The paper bin (Abitibi) is located on McAlpin next to the cafeteria and the aluminum can bin (Rumpke) is located in the parking lot on Clifton Avenue. It feel wonderful to get rid of junk mail, phone books, magazines, catalogs, and cardboard boxes, while at the same time making money for Fairview, so keep collecting but remember, no plastic bags or styrofoam can go in the bins!
Earn Money for Fairview and Help the Environment
Fairview is a GREEN school! Please bring in your old ink cartridges and cell phones. Fairview can earn up to $3 per cartridge and even more for phones when we then send them in for recycling! Drop off items in the Parent Center and in the Library.
