Assistance Needed with AM Car Riders, Walkers, Bikers: Message From Frau Mulligan
The weather is getting nicer and the last quarter is fast approaching. I have a couple of things that I need your help with at school. Students arriving by car, bike or walking should not arrive at school before  9:00AM. We do not have staff available to supervise students prior to nine. We are getting upwards of 40+ students arriving between 8:30 and 8:40. This has caused some issues as the students are outside playing or playing in the vestibule. The students are not supervised and this time should not to be considered morning recess.

If you are dropping off your child by car (with the exception of preschool), please pull up on McAlpin. If you are coming west you can either let your child out on the recreation center side and they can cross with the crossing guard or you can drive down to the old bus turn around and pull up on the school side of McAlpin. We are getting quite a number of parents who are pulling onto the bus drive to drop off and sometimes even parking and walking their child into the building. This blocks buses and has in the past caused bus/car accidents. We have signs clearly indicating that this is for buses or handicapped parking only. I see no issues with parents using the drive to pick up students during the day; however, please do not use it during AM or PM start/end of school day. Although we try to instill independence in you children there is an increasing number of parents walking their children to the classroom in the morning and/or wanting to stay in the afternoon to play on the greenspace. This is fine except our parking lot is overfull. I have gotten a number of complaints from our staff that they come to school and there are no parking spaces for them. If you are only coming to school to walk your child to the classroom please park in the recreation center lot off McAlpin. This will free up parking spaces for our teachers. I know that we all lead busy lives and skirting the procedures might seem ok occasionally. With 700 students in the building we all need to work together to maintain organization.

Annual Cookie Dough Sale to Benefit Fairview Kicks Off this Week
Fairview's kicking off our cookie dough sale. Please help support our school by selling this tasty treat. Customers can choose from pre-portioned dough or scoopable dough. For each tub sold, Fairview will earn 40 percent profit. Our goal is to have every  student sell at least two tubs. Every fundraiser helps Fairview remain the excellent school that it is. Our past fundraisers have allowed the wonderful new playground equipment to be installed, extra  field trips be taken, and extra learning tools and materials for the  teachers to give to their students. Please participate and meet the  goal of selling at least two tubs per student. Your child will come  home on Wednesday with all of the information, including order forms, prize information and important dates. Contact Natasha with any questions or concerns natashaliz@cinci.rr.com or 541-4030.

Soccer Gear Information
With the spring soccer season starting up, it is time to dust off the cleats and shin guards and see if they still fit! This is just a reminder that you can always donate used items, including jerseys, to the soccer gear box in the parent center across from Frau Mulligan's office. Of course, the gear is there for Fairview Clifton Soccer stars to use, so feel free to try to find a pair that fits. Thanks for re-using and recycling and helping each other to save money. Have a great season!

Lost and Found News
Please check out the lost and found area in the front corner of the cafeteria every time you are at school. Currently there are more than: 80 hats, 12 pairs of gloves/mittens, 45 single gloves/mittens, 24 jackets, also numerous plastic food containers and other miscellaneous items. If your name is in the item we will return it.

Germany Travel and Exchange Program
Attention parents of recent Fairview/Clifton graduates: Your child has the incredible opportunity of traveling to Donaueschingen, Germany with fellow Fairview students. Many consider this 3 week trip to be the culmination of the Fairview experience. The students spend time with their host family, attend the host school and take side trips to nearby cities and other points of interest. For more info contact Apolonio Garcia, 2009-2010 Travel & Exchange Coordinator, at travel.gebas.org.

Keep Saving Pop Tabs for Ms. Thomas' 3rd Graders
Miss Thomas’ class made a few trips to the Ronald McDonald House for a tour and to drop off the incredible amounts of aluminum pop-tabs collected by all of the wonderful students, parents and staff members at Fairview-Clifton. We thank you for you generous donations. So start saving today and send the tabs in to your child’s homeroom teacher. The third graders in room 2212 will be around to collect the tabs from each homeroom monthly.

School Closing Information
Listen to major radio or television stations or check the district's Web site for school closing announcements. There are two different messages for Cincinnati Public Schools:

"Cincinnati Public Schools is closed."

"Cincinnati Public Schools -- two hour delay, no morning preschool."

Volunteers Needed
GEBAS board openings

Hopefully you received the email over the weekend about the open board positions. Please consider getting involved, and contact Jennifer Howe for more information: jealeahowe@yahoo.com.

LSDMC Openings
The LSDMC is the primary governing body for each school in our district. The LSDMC develops the vision and mission of the school, sets goals, approves the budget, and selects the school principal. The membership includes three teachers, three parents, three non-teaching staff, and three community members.  Members serve a two-year renewable term. Two of our current parent representatives (Jerry Jordan and Caroline Sanders) will be finishing their terms this year, but are willing to serve an additional term. We would like to know if other parents are interested in serving in this capacity.  If you are, please contact Jennifer Howe by email at jenleahowe@yahoo.com or phone (731-8133) before April 1.

Falkenpost Editors Need Your Help
Mindy and Stephanie really need a break from Falkenpost editing and database management next year. We are looking for someone(s!) to take over, and work with us the rest of this year to learn the system for a smooth transition. This is something you can do from home, and requires 2-4 hours a week. It is a great way to really be informed about what is going on at school.  Please contact Mindy Wise corresponding@gebas.org 833-4136 if you are interested or would like to know more.

Fundraising
Aluminum Cans (and other recycling matters)
First of all, kudos to the great recycling response for paper products!! It is great to see all those paper products in the Abitibi bin; and doesn’t it feel wonderful to get rid of junk mail, phone books, magazines, catalogs, and cardboard boxes, while at the same time making money for Fairview? Now, where in Cincinnati are the aluminum cans?  Not in the Rumpke dumpster located on the school’s parking lot! In fact, the amount of aluminum cans has been quite low; and if it stays low, Rumpke might end the program, which would mean no money for Fairview. So, here’s a challenge to all the Fairview children and their families: please, pretty please, bring as many aluminum cans to the school as you can; tell your friends, grandparents, and other relatives about the challenge; collect aluminum cans at your office from your co-workers and/or at the fitness club you attend (I do both); when you go for a walk, bring a big garbage bag and a pair of tongs (or plastic gloves) and collect discarded aluminum cans (I do that too); you’ll be surprised and shocked by the amount of cans you can find…And as always, NO plastic bags and NO Styrofoam in either the Abitibi bin or the Rumpke dumpster; and break down cardboard boxes as much as possible.

Save Your Box Tops
Box Tops for schoolYou may find yourself cooking with Betty Crocker, Pillsbury and Gold Medal flour. You may set the table with good old Hefty paper products, store the leftovers in a Ziploc and toss the rest in Hefty trash bags. Visitors may arrive toting Huggies Diapers and boxes of Kleenex, demanding Juicy Juice, Yoplait and General Mills cereals. You will have a lot on your mind, but don't forget to clip those Box Tops! We greatly appreciate all the families who have sent in Box Tops this year. So far, we have raised about $500, and we're sure we can double that with your help. Keep 'em coming! Questions, contact Sonya Thielmann  251-5618  thielmanns1@earthlink.net.
