Fairview-Clifton German Language School New Building Open Haus
Sunday, May 25, 2008 - 12:00 – 3:00
Fairview families, Clifton community members and others are invited to explore the inside and outside of our new school building. Although we are not expecting to officially move until June 23, 2008, we wanted to invite you to see the long awaited new facility located at 3689 Clifton Avenue.

Also going on at the same time is a Clifton Alumni Association 1906 building open house. The 1906 building housed the Clifton School located right across the street from our new building. The Clifton Cultural Arts Center is now located in the 1906 building as well as the carriage house right behind the Fairview-Clifton building.

Come and tour both buildings and find out more about our community learning center.

Gardeners, Landscapers and everyone with a "green thumb", we need you!
On Saturday, May 17, 2008 The Green Group parent volunteer board will be spending the day working on improving the landscape at the Fairview-Clifton German Language School. We are also in need of trucks for hauling. If you own a truck that we can borrow, or if you're interested in helping out, contact Christina Zorn or Cathryn Lovely: xenopus@current.net or 513-351-3449, cathrynlovely@yahoo.com 513-241-2312. Save the Arts… Save our Excellence
Thank you to all of the parents and family members who have already donated to our fundraising campaign this year. Our parents have already donated about $8,000 toward our $25,000 goal! Our Pasta Dinner raised about $4,000. We are well on our way to achieving our goal of $25,000.

In order to make our campaign a success we still need to raise about $13,000. If you have already sent in a donation, thank you. If you have been thinking about it then please send it in-----if we could reach our goal before the end of this school year we would have reason to celebrate!

We can continue Fairview’s Excellence if we all work together! Please consider sharing your time, your talent, and if possible your treasure! Please contact Patty Donnelly if you have any questions. (559-0969 or p2dna@fuse.net)

ECONOMIC STIMULUS ACT
This is just a reminder about the Economic Stimulus Act signed into law in February this year. Most families will be receiving graduated tax rebates for taxpaying adults and a $300 additional rebate for each child. Please consider “investing” in your child and donating some or all of this to directly impact your child’s education. Imagine the long-term benefits to your child in maintaining a strong music, arts, and enrichment pro-gram at Fairview. Consider donating to our Save the Arts campaign. This is an awesome bargain!

Save the Arts Art Auction Postponed
Our Art Auction scheduled for Saturday, May 10 has unfortunately been canceled. We were unable to garner up enough volunteers to make it happen. The end of the school year is a very busy time. We have decided to reschedule the event for early fall when we are in our new building. We started this year with the “Annie Raffle”...next year we will hopefully have a fabulous Art Auction! If you would be interested in getting involved with this event, please let me know. We do have someone willing to be a co-chair for the event------anyone willing to be the other partner?

Stay tuned for information about the Save the Arts Art Auction to be rescheduled
in the fall. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate full time art, music and physical education in our amazing new school! Questions? Contact Patty Donnelly (559-0969 or p2dna@fuse.net)

Young Author's Spring Social
It's that time again! Time for Fairview's Young Author's Spring Social. Come and enjoy the work of Fairview's young authors. Each year Fairview students work hard planning, writing and publishing their own book which we will be sharing at our Young Author's Spring Social. This wonderful event will be held on Thursday, May 15th from 6-8 pm. So come to enjoy some good readings, celebrate your child's accomplishments, and socialize with other Fairview families!

Last Chance To Buy Your 2007-2008 Memory Book
Order forms for the 2007-2008 yearbooks were sent home several weeks ago. If you interested in purchasing a yearbook please drop off your order form to the office or give it to your child's teacher. The price went up a little this year due to new program we were fortunate to have access too. Yearbooks are $16.95.
This yearbook will be the last Yearbook for the "Old Fairview"...... What a way to capture the memories! If you have any questions regarding the yearbook, please call or email Shelby Zimmer: scf@zoomtown.com or 513-451-8088.

Fall 2008 Soccer Sign ups Coming Soon
Of course the curse of Spring Soccer is rain but I believe after a little experience everyone knows to use the hotlines for game day updates- 513 369-8036. Just a reminder, Fall 2008 sign ups will be the first two weeks in May. Watch for the forms in backpacks. And if you can volunteer help coordinate uniforms, Contact Mary Seguin @ 236-3138 if you're interested or have questions.

Auf Wiedersehen Frau Roscoe
Sadly, Frau Johanna Roscoe is retiring from Fairview this year. Frau Roscoe has worked as an Instructor Assistant, helping hundreds of children at Fairview for 21 years and she will be truly missed. Not only did Frau Roscoe help the students at Fairview, but she also supported the classroom teachers and German staff as well. We wish her the best in the future and hope to see her again soon!

The New Building Has Great Acoustics and is a Fun Place to Eat Lunch!
Why we like the new buildingIn December, a group of Fairview students got to soak up the atmosphere, perform for an enthusiastic audience, and eat a delicious lunch in our "dining area" in our new building. Somehow, the name, "cafeteria," does not describe what a lovely, airy, bright and open space it is.

For more pictures from the event, go to our new school page.

Students Complete 'Flying Pig' Marathon Despite Rain
On Saturday, May 3rd, 50 Fairview students completed the 5K “chipped” race of the 2008 Flying Pig Marathon weekend in the pouring down rain. They and many Fairview parents and teachers ran easily and swiftly because they faithfully practiced twice a week (and more) after school since early February as part of the Fairview Runs team. Back in late March mostly the same group of students, parents and teachers ran the Heart Mini-Marathon 2K, many of the younger kids running their very first race. Both races were a lot of fun for everyone including the spectators. On Friday, May 9th the group celebrated with a pizza party and a short jog around the Fairview neighborhood. Next year the scenery will be a bit different!

Fire Fighter's Memorial Donation Total
The amount of money collected over a week and a half from our Fairview Family for Capt. Robin Broxterman was an amazing $100. This money will be sent to her two daughters, Sierra and Courtney for their scholarship fund. Third grade student Moria Gable wishes to also add a $50 Savings Bond to this amount for her soccer teammates and friends on behalf of her school's name. Thank all of you who contributed to help this fallen hero's family.

2nd-4th Grades to see Ballet Theatre Midwest production of "Cinderella"
Ballet Theatre Midwest is delighted to presents their production of "Cinderella" to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders on May 16th at 10 am at the Corbett Theatre of Northern Kentucky University. Their ability to present this production to Fairview students is in part made possible through generous funding provided by a project support grant from The Fine Arts Fund. Two Fairview students are performing. Lyla Mann, a third grader, will perform the role of a Spring Dragonfly. Amelia Walz, a first grader, will perform the role of a Summer Butterfly. Public performances are May 16 at 7 pm and May 17 and 18 at 2 pm. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ballettheatremidwest.com or 513-520-2334. Please feel free to contact Nicolay Walz at 513-321-6794 with any questions about these performances or Ballet Theatre Midwest. LSDMC Looking For Parent Reps For Next Year
The LSDMC---Local School Decision Making Committee is made up of parents, teachers, school staff and community members. The committee meets once a month in the evenings and is the primary governing body for our school. The LSDMC deals with issues including the budget, the one plan, the vision and mission of the school, the monitoring of academic performance through reports, goal setting and much more. It is a two year commitment and very informative. Think about it and if this interests you then consider helping your school in this way. It will prove to be an exciting time as we transition into a new school and a new community. If you are interested and/or want to find out more about LSDMC please contact Patty Donnelly, the LSDMC chair, at 559-0969 or p2dna@fuse.net.

Fairview Falkenpost

Fairview Falkenpost Newsletter Goes Electronic
If you'd like to save trees and money for Fairview at the same time, consider receiving the weekly Falkenpost newsletter electronically! If you're interested or if you thought you requested email distribution but have NOT received a post via email, contact Beth Koenig at bck@fuse.net from the email address to which you would like to have the Falkenpost sent. Include all of your children’s names and classrooms so we know who does not need paper copies in the future. For the time being, we have tried to eliminate the multiple household copies of the newsletter by sending the Falkenpost home with only one child per family. Your child who comes first alphabetically should get the paper copy. (example: Eva Schomaeker and Patsy Schomaeker – Eva get’s the paper copy, and Patsy is eliminated). If you did not receive a Falkenpost last week in any of your children's’ backpacks, please contact Mindy Wise 833-4136 mwise003@cinci.rr.com.

If you'd like to submit an item for consideration in the Falkenpost, send any and all info and submission to falk.post@hotmail.com. The next Falkenpost submission deadline is Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 6:00 pm.
