Activities
Special
Field Trips
Students at all grade levels participate in numerous enriching
field trips. Most of these require a signed permission slip
and payment of transportation/entrance fees. Students whose
fees have not been paid after the first semester will be
excluded from field trips. Third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders
participate in special “overnight” field trips.
Students may raise all or part of the required funds through
fundraisers such as the “Buddy Card” sale.
Zoo
Camp
3rd grade students participate in an
overnight stay at the Cincinnati Zoo’s Education
Center. Students learn about nocturnal animals.
Connor Prairie
4th grade students participate in an outdoor overnight education experience at Connor Prairie, which is located near Indianapolis, Indiana.
Camp
Kern
As part of the 5th and 6th grade curriculum, Fairview
children participate in the Camp Kern experience. Camp
Kern is a residential education center located near Morrow,
Ohio. During their 3-day stay, the pupils are under
the direction of the resident staff and Fairview chaperoning
teachers. General goals of the experience are to help
the participants to become more aware of nature and the
environment, to learn to interact with their peers outside
the school environment, and to gain exposure to the culture
of others.
Sports
Fairview
Runs (Running Club, all grades)
Four years ago, Bill Gordon (parent of David Gordon-Johnson,
Fairview graduate now in 9th grade at Walnut) started a
running club here at Fairview. A group of parents and teachers
and continuing and new runners have kept the program going
and growing.
"Fairview Runs" is open to anyone in the Fairview
community (parents, teachers, staff). Running practices
start in early February and continue through early May.
We all run two races as a large group (the Heart Mini-Marathon
2K in March and the Flying Pig 5K in May) and have lots
of fun together. Practices are held twice a week after school
(Mondays and Fridays 4-5 pm). We run outdoors in the Fairview
neighborhood, or in the nearby Fairview Park, or at the
UC track. We start with very short run/walk distances, to
accommodate beginners and warm-up the old pros. To ensure
that Fairview Runs is open to everyone, GEBAS provides funding
and we raise money among local businesses so that all race
fees and t-shirts are kept to a minimum to all Fairview
student participants.
There is a sign-up form for Fairview Runs with this Falkenpost.
We do require that kindergarten and first-grade students
be accompanied by a parent or other adult car-giver during
practices. As always, we look for adult participation to
assist in supervision of the students. We have become a
real running club over the last 4 years. We break up into
groups of runners with different abilities and experience.
We have to ask that all participants keep up with his/her
group. When kids refuse to run or keep up we may not have
enough adults to safely supervise all participants.
If you have questions, you may call Sarah Langenderfer at
school 513-363-2138 or email langens@cps-k12.org.

Germany Travel and Exchange Program
Attention parents of recent Fairview/Clifton graduates: Your child has the incredible opportunity of traveling to Donaueschingen, Germany with fellow Fairview students. Many consider this 3 week trip to be the culmination of the Fairview experience. The students spend time with their host family, attend the host school and take side trips to nearby cities and other points of interest. For more info contact Apolonio Garcia, 2009-2010 Travel & Exchange Coordinator, at travel.gebas.org.
