Fairview
German Language School, a School of Excellence!
|
Welcome
to Fairview School.
Fairview is consistently rated by the Ohio Board of Education
as an Excellent School--now for its second year
in a row! Schools that receive an excellent rating
must meet or exceed performance, attendance and yearly progress.
As the entire Fairview community celebrates the recognition
that the excellent rating brings, we continue to work to
maintain and improve our success record for the years ahead.
But
one aspect that makes Fairview so special is the offering
of exceptional German language instruction. Not only do
Fairview student receive an excellent education, but with
the added
German language program, each child's experience through
intensive daily exposure to the German language and culture
creates an even more enriched culture here at Fairview.
|
Come
visit Fairview and find out for yourself what makes Fairview
great! In addition to the German language curriculum, here
are some highlights you may not have known about Fairview:

Save
the Arts… Save our Excellence
Thank you to all of the parents and family members
who have already donated to our
fundraising campaign this year. Our parents
have already donated about $8,000 toward our
$25,000 goal! Our Pasta Dinner raised about
$4,000. We are well on our way to achieving
our goal of $25,000.
In
order to make our campaign a success we still
need to raise about $13,000. If you have already
sent in a donation, thank you. If you have been
thinking about it then please send it in-----if
we could reach our goal before the end of this
school year we would have reason to celebrate!
Our next Save the Arts meeting is scheduled
for Thursday, May 8 at 7:00
in the school library. I hope many of you are
able to attend. We can make this happen---we
can continue Fairview’s Excellence if
we all work together! Please consider sharing
your time, your talent, and if possible your
treasure! Please contact Patty Donnelly if you
have any questions. (559-0969 or p2dna@fuse.net)
ECONOMIC
STIMULUS ACT
This is just a reminder about the Economic
Stimulus Act signed into law in February
this year. Most families will be receiving
graduated tax rebates for taxpaying adults
and a $300 additional rebate for each child.
Please consider “investing”
in your child and donating some or all of
this to directly impact your child’s
education. Imagine the long-term benefits
to your child in maintaining a strong music,
arts, and enrichment pro-gram at Fairview.
Consider donating to our Save the Arts campaign.
This is an awesome bargain!

parents John Walter and Ian Goodall) |
Save the Arts Art Auction
Postponed
Our Art Auction scheduled for Saturday, May
10 has unfortunately been canceled. We were
unable to garner up enough volunteers to make
it happen. The end of the school year is a very
busy time. We have decided to reschedule the
event for early fall when we are in our new
building. We started this year with the “Annie
Raffle”...next year we will hopefully
have a fabulous Art Auction! If you would be
interested in getting involved with this event,
please let me know. We do have someone willing
to be a co-chair for the event------anyone willing
to be the other partner?
Stay tuned for information about the Save the
Arts Art Auction to be rescheduled
in the fall. It will be a wonderful opportunity
to celebrate full time art, music and physical
education in our amazing new school! Questions?
Contact Patty Donnelly (559-0969 or p2dna@fuse.net)

their own book which we will be sharing at our
Young Author's Spring Social. This wonderful
event will be held on Thursday, May
15th from 6-8 pm. So come to enjoy
some good readings, celebrate your child's accomplishments,
and socialize with other Fairview families!

Auf
Wiedersehen Frau Roscoe
Sadly, Frau Johanna Roscoe is retiring from
Fairview this year. Frau Roscoe has worked as
an Instructor Assistant, helping hundreds of
children at Fairview for 21 years and she will
be truly missed. Not only did Frau Roscoe help
the students at Fairview, but she also supported
the classroom teachers and German staff as well.
We wish her the best in the future and hope
to see her again soon!
The New Building Has
Great Acoustics and is a Fun Place to Eat Lunch!
In
December, a group of Fairview students got to
soak up the atmosphere, perform for an enthusiastic
audience, and eat a delicious lunch in our "dining
area" in our new building. Somehow, the
name, "cafeteria," does not describe
what a lovely, airy, bright and open space it
is.
For more pictures from the event, go
to our new school page. |

Star Student,
Michael Cunningham!
Fairview student Michael Cunningham was
recently named Student of the Year for
2007 at the Ohio Taekwondo Academy in
Mt. Healthy. He was originally chosen
as a student of the month for 2007 (one
of 12) and then was named the Student
of the Year from those 12 finalists. Michael
has been a student at the academy for
2 ½ years and is currently at the
level of purple belt. Students at the
school are taught all aspects of the Korean
martial art with emphasis on four guiding
principles of discipline, respect, perseverance,
and self-confidence. Michael will soon
be participating in two upcoming Taekwondo
tournaments. He will compete in the Battle
of Cincinnati this month in Mason, and
also in the Ohio state Taekwondo tournament
in Columbus over Memorial Day weekend.
Michael is Ms. Glas’ third grade
class. Congratulations, Michael! |

LSDMC
Looking For Parent Reps For Next Year
The LSDMC---Local School Decision Making Committee
is made up of parents, teachers, school staff
and community members. The committee meets once
a month in the evenings and is the primary governing
body for our school. The LSDMC deals with issues
including the budget, the one plan, the vision
and mission of the school, the monitoring of
academic performance through reports, goal setting
and much more. It is a two year commitment and
very informative. Think about it and if this
interests you then consider helping your school
in this way. It will prove to be an exciting
time as we transition into a new school and
a new community. If you are interested and/or
want to find out more about LSDMC please contact
Patty Donnelly, the LSDMC chair, at 559-0969
or p2dna@fuse.net.

Information
for Prospective Parents
Fairview German Language School will be moving to its new
location at Clifton Avenue and McAlpin in the Fall of 2008.
Parents interested in enrolling
their child at Fairview in Preschool, Kindergarten or 1st
Grade are encouraged to visit the current school on Stratford
to observe classes and talk to the faculty to see if Fairview
is right for you and your child.
Because of the German language curriculum at Fairview, students
are admitted into Kindergarten and 1st Grade levels only
and beginning next year, full-day Preschool. However, prospective
students with some knowledge and experience of German may
be admitted at other grade levels upon approval. Call the
main office at (513) 363-2100 with any questions regarding
admission to Fairview. For
more, click here.
Fairview
Tours
School tours will be scheduled weekly through
April of 2008. Call the main office at 363-2100 to schedule
a tour.

Falkenpost Newsletter Goes Electronic
If you'd like to save trees
and money for Fairview at the same time, consider receiving
the weekly Falkenpost newsletter electronically! If you're
interested or if you thought you requested email distribution
but have NOT received a post via email, contact Beth Koenig
at bck@fuse.net from the email address to which you would
like to have the Falkenpost sent. Include all of your children’s
names and classrooms so we know who does not need paper
copies in the future. For the time being, we have tried
to eliminate the multiple household copies of the newsletter
by sending the Falkenpost home with only one child per family.
Your child who comes first alphabetically should get the
paper copy. (example: Eva Schomaeker and Patsy Schomaeker
– Eva get’s the paper copy, and Patsy is eliminated).
If you did not receive a Falkenpost last week in any of
your children's’ backpacks, please contact Mindy Wise
833-4136 mwise003@cinci.rr.com.
If
you'd like to submit an item for consideration in the Falkenpost,
send any and all info and submission to falk.post@hotmail.com.
The next Falkenpost submission deadline is Wednesday,
May 7, 2008 at 6:00 pm.
